Final Logo Design--Jess Brannan Illustration by zeivin Final Logo Design--Jess Brannan Illustration by zeivin
Final Edit:
After even more critique and staring at the screen all night making so many minor tweaks and such, I have finally decided that this is now my new logo. One in full color and the other in black and white and I think it not only works but is perfect for me. You can clearly see the "J" and "b" for my initials, it works in both color and black and white, the colors are appropriate for a kid's illustration company and lastly and most importantly, you can clearly see the rabbit and the tortoise. :D
Edit: After all of the wonderful feedback that I have received from everyone, I've decided to go with the simpler logo. Thanks, everyone for all the awesome critique thus far. You're all awesome!! :D Added a little hind leg swoop which I think not only made the J stand out better, but helped with identifying the rabbit. I also made the tortoise bigger and less connected to the rabbit and wrote in some text. Lastly, I dropped in some colors that I think looks pretty good. Thoughts and opinions are always welcomed! Black and white logo for comparison.
I would very much love your help in deciding which one do you think is the stronger logo to represent myself in the children's illustration market.

What I believe to be a successful logo may be very different than yours, and I am open to all comments, criticisms, etc...

My idea of a successful logo:
--> It succeeds in advertising the company to the correct demographic.
--> It first succeeds in black and white design before adding color. (hence why there is no color here.)
--> It also appeals to a very broad audience.
--> It represents something about the company (or person).

The last reason is why I chose the tortoise and the hare. It was one of the first stories I heard and loved when I was little and is widely known by a lot of families (young and old alike). I also chose the poses because my initials are "JDB" or "JB" so the pose of the rabbit makes the "J" and the tortoise is a "b".

Thank you very much for your time and insight!! :D

Oh Jess! These are so cute! (I'm ignoring the fact that it involves a rabbit and moving on to being happy for you.) I've been so busy with work and life and everything that I hardly get to check my dA anymore. I like the black one a bit better, but they're both really awesome. :)

Having a lower case b doesn't really work being as that it's the initials of a persons name.
It's a cool logo otherwise.

The one on the right is working more successfully, but the tortoise is a bit hard to read from a distance since most of the lines making him up are really thin. I'd also try doing something neat with the word "illustration" since it just seems tacked on at the moment.
